The Smart Systems Campus in Chemnitz represents a dynamic network of microsystems technology expertise. The technology park, with its generous dimensions on a site measuring almost 4.5 hectares, provides renowned scientific and technical centres with an entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen and an economic boost at a location where everything is on the spot.
The microsystems technology sector is one of the technological and business powerhouses in Germany. Engineering and plant construction and the automobile industries in particular rely on innovations and developments in the micro or nanofields. More than 750 companies in Chemnitz and its region are suppliers to the automobile industry or engineering and plant construction companies.
The city of Chemnitz meets all the conditions for developing a microsystems technology specialist centre of expertise. The region is one of the most important sector clusters in Germany on account of the number of companies already established in this line of business. The cooperation and the intensive exchange of knowledge with the Silicon Saxony microelectronics cluster, for example, permits interdisciplinary approaches to joint projects – e.g. as part of the Cool Silicon excellence cluster, which will develop energy-efficient systems for microelectronics applications.
