Center for Integrative Lightweight Technologies

New injection moulding technologies for high-performance components with textile reinforcements or complex functional and electronic parts are being developed at the Center for Integrative Lightweight Technologies (ZIL); these solutions are then transferred into industrial practice. One major goal involves producing energy-efficient manufacturing strategies and lightweight product applications in conjunction with companies operating in the plastics processing sector and research institutes within and beyond the University of Technology. The facilities for manufacturing so-called intelligent materials and components, which include functions ranging from micro to macro levels, are unique in Europe in this form.

The scientists in the Structural Lightweight and Plastics Processing Departments are carrying out research on many projects supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the German Research Foundation and the Saxon state excellence initiative entitled “Energyefficient product and process innovations in production engineering.” One spin-off from the department provides the complete value added chain in the start-up building, ranging from calculations and simulation to the finished high-performance fibre composite components.
