Chemnitz as a Business Centre
The city of Chemnitz meets all the conditions for developing a microsystems technology specialist centre of expertise. The region is one of the most important sector clusters in Germany on account of the number of companies already established in this line of business. The cooperation and the intensive exchange of knowledge with the Silicon Saxony microelectronics cluster, for example, permits interdisciplinary approaches to joint projects – e.g. as part of the Cool Silicon excellence cluster, which will develop energy-efficient systems for microelectronics applications.
The Chemnitz Business and Development Company and the Saxeed start-up network at the four universities in the Chemnitz region support investments and business start-ups fast and without red tape through providing comprehensive advisory services, e.g. on public sector funding subsidies, low-interest loans or subsidies to help with wage costs.
Two thirds of entrepreneurs regarded Chemnitz as particularly business-friendly in a recent survey. They appreciate the well developed infrastructure, the ideal transport links and the potential derived from a highly qualified workforce, coupled with low wage costs. Chemnitz is one of the most attractive locations in Germany at a European level.

Chemnitz provides its residents with an up-market environment to live, a rich cultural and art scene, interesting leisure and sports activities and varied natural surroundings. There are attractive facilities providing adults and children with the facilities to achieve goals.
Regardless of whether people are involved in associations or enjoy a lively club and music scene or all kinds of museums – Chemnitz thrives on its variety. Even young families with children love the city with its green spaces. But it is not only the city that is designed in an attractive way. The beautiful Erzgebirge mountains are located right on Chemnitz’s doorstep and attract tourists in summer and winter.
