Technology Park

There will be an ideal centre available for microsystem technology companies in Chemnitz from the beginning of 2009 onwards: a technology park is being created very close to the research and development centres at the Chemnitz University of Technology, the Fraunhofer Institute and companies working in the microsystem technology sector.

The technology park has three mainstays: the university research and development facilities are supplemented by the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration (IZM) and the new physics building at the Chemnitz University of Technology. Another element is the start-up centre for high technology companies. There will be 2,500 m² of space available here for about 15 firms. It will be possible to use the laboratory area measuring 1,500 square meters in the start-up centre in a flexible manner to allow system integration and specific applications. Companies will be able to set up clean areas locally by building clean room boxes. The third mainstay is the business park very close to the technology park. More high-technology companies will be able to move to the area measuring 1.2 hectares (with a further 6 hectares available, if necessary).
